Autumn in Ithaca

Last autumn my wife, Shelly, and I had the opportunity to visit upstate NY. We started with a pilgrimage to the Eastman Kodak House in Rochester, followed by an apple festival near Syracuse. Along the journey home we spent a morning near Ithaca and found a beautiful gorge trail to hike. The beauty of the area has since drawn me back, and certainly will continue to in the future.

When we were young, Shelly would carry my tripod when we hiked together whilst I toted my Zone VI 4×5 camera outfit. Today it has been replaced by a Cambo Actus. We continue to love spending time together among the natural world and I very much enjoy making a photograph when something special crosses our path.

For this photograph I used a Mamiya 645 35mm Sekor C N lens with my Actus and Fuji GFX 50S. A beautiful ash Berlebach tripod easily handles the load and my ProMaster IRND filters give me the desired exposure. I am very much about “getting it right in-camera” and doing as little in post processing as possible. Not that there is right or wrong approach. It’s simply my own desire to spend more time behind the camera and less time in front of a computer screen. Funny that I’m now starting a blog, having just typed those words! But, I love discussing photography, nature’s beauty, and travel. Hopefully this is the first part of a larger plan to start offering fine art prints for sale and donating the profits to charitable causes, particularly for kids.
